Nice to "Meat" You Bacon Fest

Able 08/31/2019

Murfreesboro held its inaugural Bacon Festival at McKnight Park this August, featuring craft booths and food trucks.

The porcine-themed party opened the morning of the 31st with vendors peddling homemade wares inspired by bacon.

Southern desserts, wooden carvings, and screen-printed shirts all displayed this unifying factor with cartoon piglets and catty phrases.

A cavalcade of food trucks accompanied the miniature art fair, bringing a needed sense of organization and professionalism to the event.

Each food truck was required to have at least two items on their menu that featured bacon in order to enter the event.

The event also featured an inflatable slide and a mechanical hog to entertain younger attendees whose attention may not have been captured by tents of homemade wares.

The event was conceptualized last year and made its debut as an art fair for local vendors to display their works.

It attracted little attention, and the idea of having a theme to draw in an audience was discussed, resulting in the birth of the Bacon Festival.

The fair's roots in craft shows was seemingly difficult to step away from however, and the event was ultimately lacking in draw aside from the opportunity to purchase themed goods.
